This weekend was nothing short of amazing! I scaled Scafell Pike and took the plunge into the chilly waters of the Lake District. With my arms raised high in triumph, I’m reminded that age is just a number, and we can achieve anything we set our minds to.
The Power of Sobriety
Over six years ago, I made the choice to give up alcohol, and it has profoundly changed my life. I never realised how those binge weekends were impacting every other day. Now, I would never go back. Embracing sobriety has opened up a world of clarity and purpose, allowing me to fully engage in the adventures life has to offer.
At 45, I’m realising that life is vibrant and full of possibilities. I remember thinking 45 was "old" when I was a teenager, but now, that seems crazy talk,. Climbing mountains, swimming in cold waters, and hitting the gym are just a few ways I’m embracing this new chapter. I am not going to lie, my body might feel a bit achey after all the adventures, but I’m fitter and more determined than ever!
Redefining "Grandma"
As a proud grandma (though I do wish there was a cooler name for grandma), I never imagined in my younger days that I would be doing all these adventurous things. I think we all have this image of what a grandma should be like, and I’m pretty sure it’s not someone in a bikini and a bubble hat in the middle of October! I remember when I told people I was going to be a grandma, and they laughed, but honestly, it’s one of the most incredible experiences. Watching my eldest daughter embrace motherhood and seeing my granddaughter grow up fills me with joy and excitement. whos laughing now hey?. having a baby at 19 meant it as likely I would be a young grandma, and you know what? How lucky am I? When I hear my little Bella say "grandma," I realise I don’t actually care about the name—I couldn’t be happier! I hope that one day, when she’s all grown up, Bella looks back on my Instagram and thinks, “Oh my God, how cool is my grandma, I want her to know that life is for living!” And see that pursuing your passions and living boldly is something to be proud of.
Navigating Life's Challenges
The last few days, I have felt a real waves of overwhelm and anxiety wash over me—perhaps a natural response after such an incredible weekend spent with like-minded souls. It’s easy to let those feelings creep in, especially when facing changes like ADHD and perimenopause. However, I refuse to let these challenges define me. Each obstacle is an opportunity for growth and understanding, and I’m learning to navigate them with resilience.
I really hope to inspire anyone reading this, especially those who may feel that life is winding down as they reach their 40s and beyond. It’s crucial to remember that age is just a number, and your capacity for adventure and joy doesn't diminish with time. Whether it’s taking up a new hobby, exploring nature, or simply challenging yourself to step outside your comfort zone, there’s always something new to discover.
Life after 45 can be rich, exciting, and full of possibility. Let’s celebrate our journeys, support one another, and continue to seek adventures that make us feel alive. Here’s to living boldly, embracing every moment, and the incredible journey of sobriety! If you have your own stories of adventure, sobriety, or embracing life at any age, I would love to hear them! Let’s continue this inspiring conversation together!
