If you’ve ever been to one of my soundbaths, you’ll know that we begin with a heart-opening cacao ceremony. I’m always asked, “What is the cacao recipe?!” so I thought I’d finally share the recipe (and a few little secrets) that make it so special.
This isn’t just a drink, it’s a ritual. A way to pause, connect, and open up to the healing energy of the experience ahead. Every ingredient is chosen with intention, and yes… there’s magic in the mix.
Here’s everything I use to make the most gorgeous cacao for our sessions, and how you can recreate it at home:

What You’ll Need, Cacao Recipe:
Ceremonial Grade Cacao – I use Full Power Cacao for its rich, earthy taste and incredible energy.
Coconut Sugar – This one adds just the right amount of sweetness without overpowering the cacao.
Agave Syrup – I love this one for an extra silky, sweet touch.
Coconut Milk – Here’s my go-to for the creamiest texture and a beautiful balance with the cacao.
Maple Syrup – This is the cheeky extra I sometimes add when I want a deeper, caramel sweetness (you’ll know when the moment calls for it).
My Ritual Method:
Set the energy – I always begin by creating a sacred space. I draw my Reiki symbols, take a few deep breaths, and play beautiful music while I prepare. This is where the magic really happens – it’s not just what you put in, it’s the energy you pour into it.

Melt the cacao – Add a generous chunk of cacao to a small pan with coconut milk and begin melting it slowly over low heat.
Sweeten with love – Once it starts to melt into a thick, chocolatey paste, stir in your coconut sugar and a little agave syrup to taste. You can adjust the sweetness depending on your mood or intention.
Whisk it well – Add more coconut milk bit by bit, whisking until smooth and silky. The consistency should feel like a warm, chocolate hug.
Serve with intention – Pour into your favourite mug, hold it in both hands, and take a moment to connect. What do you want to let go of? What do you want to invite in?
How Much Cacao Per Cup?
The amount of cacao you use can really depend on your intention and the type of experience you’re creating. Here’s a gentle guide to help you find the right dose for you:
Everyday Cup (Gentle & Heart-Opening)
15–20g cacao (about 1 heaped tablespoon)
Perfect for daily rituals, journaling, or a peaceful moment of connection.
Ceremonial Dose (Deep & Expansive)
30–40g cacao (about 2 heaped tablespoons)
This is what I use in soundbaths and guided ceremonies, where we’re opening the heart and really dropping in.
Liquid to Cacao Ratio
Start with about 100ml of coconut milk or plant-based milk and melt your cacao into it first.
Then slowly add more milk or hot water (up to 200–250ml total) depending on your desired consistency.
Add your sweeteners (like coconut sugar, agave, maple) to taste.
A Few Tips:
If you're new to cacao, start with a smaller amount and work your way up.
Always listen to your body and intuition, some days you might need a gentler cup, others you might be ready for a deeper journey.
And always set an intention before you drink – even one word can shift the whole experience.
Let It Be Sacred
Whether you’re drinking your cacao in ceremony, journaling, meditating, or just watching the sunrise, make it sacred. This isn’t just a recipe – it’s a tool for connection, grounding, and joy.
You can tweak it, play with it, and make it your own. But most of all, let yourself feel. That’s where the real alchemy is.

Let me know if you make your own! I’d love to see your creations - tag me or message me and tell me how it felt 💛
Love, Lisa Jo
**Just a little heads up - this is the first time I’ve used affiliate links, which means I might receive a small thank-you in the form of vouchers if you buy through them. It won’t cost you anything extra, but it does help me keep creating magical cacao moments and adding beautiful instruments to our soundbath experiences.
Thank you so much for the love and support! 💛
I absolutely adored the cacao at the April soundbath. My first time trying it and it was wonderful x
